Commentary On Revelation – Chapter 4

Comments on Revelation 4 from the front page article entitled: “The Open Door Which Leads to God’s Throne.” Volume 33, Number 4-Oct, Nov, Dec. 2006 Michael F. Clute, editor

In this life doors open and close every day of our lives. Sometimes we have control over which doors we pass through and sometimes we don’t. Almost everyone has had the experience of doors being slammed in their face, doors they truly wanted to pass through. Unless we learn to “Praise the Lord for all things,” (Eph 5:20; I Thess 5:18) this can be a most humiliating and painful experience. The secret to knowing which doors to pass through is to learn to know His voice and His will. “My sheep hear my voice , and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.” John 10:27. This is the voice the prophet spoke of: “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21.

Because our Lord is “No respecter of persons,” as we read in Acts 10:34; I Pet 1:17 and James 2:1, we know that when He tells us that He is standing at the door of our hearts, knocking, that He means that He is knocking on every heart door in the world, which means He is knocking on your door too.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and sup (dine) with him, and He with Me.” Now, friend of mine, this is not just any ordinary invitation. Why? Because the one who is knocking on your heart’s door and asking to come in and eat with you just happens to be the Creator of the Universe! That’s right.

The Father, Yahweh, created the whole universe through His only Son, Jesus Christ. And He is the One who is inviting you to dinner so that He can teach you how to get the victory in your life. That’s what this invitation is all about because He has very big plans for us. Listen: “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Rev 3:20-22. Later in this article we shall see in Rev 4 how this is actually going to become a reality in the lives of those who overcome every sin in their lives. But first of all let us take a final look at the first three chapters of John’s Apocalypse. These seven messages to those particular churches have been interpreted, by most theologians through the centuries, as applying to the spiritual condition of the members in every age since Christ established the church while on earth. But it has a very special and particular application in this last age upon “Whom the ends of the world are come.” I Cor 10:11.

Until the middle of the 19th century, the books of Daniel and Revelation were closed books. Only a few Bible scholars, such as Isaac Newton attempted to decipher their symbolic meanings. But Gabrielle had predicted through the prophet these words: “Behold, I will make you know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.” Dan 8:19.

However, Daniel could not comprehend what Gabrielle was trying to tell him about the final events of this earth. “And I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, O my lord, what shall be the issue, and final end of these things? And he said, Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end.” Dan 12:8. Daniel was not alone in his lack of understanding of what the angel had predicted. The prophecies of Daniel and Revelation go together as we shall see in this study. I just did some research on the internet via www.google.com in regard to the church Father’s opinion and attitude toward the prophecies of Revelation.

When St. Jerome translated the Bible into Latin, producing the Vulgate bible circa (about) 400, he argued for the Veritas Hebraica, meaning the truth of the Jewish Bible over the Septuagint translation. At the insistence of the Pope, however, he added existing translations for what he considered doubtful books, but did not personally translate them anew. This period marks the beginning of a more widely recognized canon, although the inclusion of some books was still debated: Epistle to Hebrews, James, 2 John, 3 John, 2 Peter, Jude and Revelation. Grounds for debate included the question of authorship of these books. So, it was not only Luther who had doubts about the value of including the Apocalypse of John or Book of Revelation in the regular cannon of Scripture. This last book of the Bible has indeed been a most controversial volume of Scripture.

“Jonathan Kirsch, the author of several acclaimed books on religious themes, goes some way toward remedying that deficit in this thoughtful history and analysis of the most controversial book of the New Testament, the Book of Revelation.

A work so problematic that many early Church Fathers found it unfit for inclusion in the canon, it also troubled many later Christians. ‘There is one sufficient reason for the small esteem in which I hold it (Apocalypse) – that Christ is neither taught in it nor recognized,’ wrote the great reformer Martin Luther. Even those Christians who made an uneasy truce with the book (of Revelation) urged caution: St. Augustine, for example, warned against any literal interpretation of its symbol-strewn word scape.” And yet, the Lord, in His great wisdom has chosen this prophetic book, along with Daniel, to be the final guidebook for this last generation of His disciples to guide them through the last seven years of this earth’s final Tribulation and Holocaust.

Now, let’s go back to Rev 3:20, 21 and the chapter which follows. He has just given an invitation for us to open the door of our hearts and invite Him in to sup or dine with us. By doing this we are allowing our Creator to live in our hearts and guide our steps upward to the New Jerusalem where He wants us to sit with Him and His Father on their eternal throne of glory. The very next chapter, Rev 4, is a revelation of the Father’s throne. “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, ‘Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.'” Rev 4:1.

“After this or after these things” is a familiar phrase John uses often and repeatedly to not only show what he saw in the next vision but the specific events which would follow in chronological sequence. A good example of this is Rev 7:1-17 which follows in logical sequence the events of Rev 6. The entire chapter of Rev 7 describes the time of the sealing of the 144,000, 12,000 from each tribe. This is the wheat harvest, the first fruits described in Rev. 14:1-5. This is very easily proved by comparing the parable of the Ten Virgins in Matt 25 and the Virgins in Rev 14, who are standing on Mount Zion with the Father’s Name written in their foreheads. These same five virgins who had the extra oil (a knowledge of God’s true character) went into the Wedding Supper of the Lamb, through the open door, Jesus showed John, which leads to the throne room of the Almighty. My point here is that there is a logical sequence of events in Rev 6:1-17 in the opening of the first six seals, ending with a dramatic description of the Second Coming of Christ under the 6th seal. “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casts her untimely figs…And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”

Remember, beloved, that in the original Greek there were no verses or chapter divisions. These were put in many years later at the time of Luther’s and Tyndale’s translations from the original Greek to German and English. So, there was a natural flow of the events which obviously are taking place one after another in chronological sequence just as the depression of 1929 followed The Great War (WW I 1914) and the Second World War (WW II) followed the first beginning in Dec 7th, 1941.

The OT was written in Hebrew from right to left without vowels or spaces between the words. Over a period of time spaces and vowels were inserted so non-Hebrews could more easily read and translate the Scriptures. About 300 years before Christ the Septuagint was produced which was a Greek translation of the Hebrew. Septuagint means seventy (70) or (72) because the translation was done by 70 Jewish scholars in 72 days for King Ptolemy II, of Egypt.

In the New Testament, the verse divisions were first added by Robert Estienne in his 1551 edition of the Greek New testament. In 1557, the first English New Testament with those verse divisions were used in a translation by William Whittingham (c. 1524-1579). These divisions have been used by nearly all English Bibles since then. Unlike the Hebrew of the Old Testament, the structure of the Greek language makes it highly susceptible to being broken up syntactically into inappropriate and even sense-contrary divisions. Inexact apportionment of Greek into verses therefore could easily have obscured the intent, relation, emphasis and force of the words themselves, and thus elicited the most strenuous objections of theologians. The retention of Robert Estienne’s verse divisions essentially without alteration is a tribute not only to the inherent utility of his contribution to Bible study, but also to his excellent knowledge of the scriptures and grasp of the fine points of the ancient Greek language. The first Bible in English to use both chapters and verses was the Geneva Bible in 1560, coming soon after Estienne’s introduction of New Testament verse numbers, and quickly rising to acceptance as a standard way to notate them.

It was not until the time of Martin Luther, 1483 – 1546, that the Bible, including the books of Daniel & Revelation were even made available to the common people in their everyday language. And even then there was little respect for the book of Revelation. It was just too weird and mysterious, the least understood of all those 27 books of the New Testament. In addition to that all 66 books were still locked up in the original ancient languages of Hebrew and Greek in which the prophets wrote the Bible. Except for Wycliffe’s handwritten translation from the Latin into English the people were in gross darkness. But finally the day came when it was time for Luther’s famous 95 thesis to be nailed to the door of Wittenberg, Germany on Oct 31, 1517. He had not intended for these clear and bold arguments against the corruptions of the Catholic Church of his day, to be circulated throughout Europe in the language of the common people, but that is exactly what happened. With amazing speed those 95 thesis were circulated all over the continent.

The Reformation was the first mass movement to take advantage of the printing press, and Luther used it with spectacular results. By printed works of every sort but especially by pamphlets, the catechism, and the Bible, Luther communicated directly with ordinary people who embraced his faith and gradually his version of the German language, which they also accepted as their own. Luther realized that the power of the Reformation was in the Word (of God) itself. “I did nothing; the Word did everything.” Luther had little or no control over the printing presses.

In only a matter of weeks Luther’s 95 thesis was translated and printed up from Latin into the German vernacular of his area and circulated in Leipiz, Nuremberg, and Basel. What had begun as a dispute among a few isolated, unknown theologians and church officials became an international controversy on account of the printing press. By Luther’s time there were over 250 printing establishments in Europe. Sixty in Germany alone. The printers were enterprising businessmen who quickly realized Luther was a goldmine and they were the means by which he became famous. Yet overall only 5% of the population could read but 30% in the cities of Europe were literate. Protestants produced about six times as many books (works) as the Catholics.

Martin Luther chose the official language of his own Prince Frederick the Wise. That particular geographical position on the map of Germany was very Providential, showing the Sovereignty and Wisdom of God, in that Wittenberg was situated in the center of Germany’s speaking lands and the dialect he employed and chose to use served as a bridge to other regions. So, Providentially Martin Luther had at hand a language which was already perfectly suited for becoming a common German tongue. Luther’s role was that he employed this special dialect in such a creative, effective and popular way, so that his writings were printed and distributed in enormous quantities in various fliers and pamphlets all throughout the German speaking territories.

But his fame and influence extended far beyond the borders of his own nation, because Luther greatly influenced and inspired others outside of Germany to follow his example of translating the 66 books of the Cannon of Scripture into the language of the common people in their own countries, such as the British Isles in English, as well as France, Spain and all of the nations of Europe and later all of the nations of the entire world. Tyndale and other translators of the various languages learned how to use the idioms of the common people to such an extent that the words and phrases they employed became the every day language of the British Isles, the same as Luther’s translation in German both transformed and unified the German language.

This was especially true of the King James Version of the Bible, which was printed in 1611. It still remains the most popular and widely distributed book in the English language.

Now, let’s go back to Rev 6 where we see the six seals opened in sequence culminating in a “great earthquake.” Earthquakes are a category or type of supernatural occurrences which mark the end of one kingdom and the beginning of another. We see this at the death of Jesus, Matt 27:50-54, as well as in Rev 11:11-15. When Jesus died the earthquake was a signal or sign that Satan had lost the first part of the Great Controversy. When Jesus’ body was laid in the tomb Satan “Claimed the Lord’s body…seeking to hold Christ a prisoner. He was bitterly angry when his angels fled at the approach of the heavenly messenger. When he saw Christ come forth in triumph, he knew that his kingdom would have an end, and that he must finally die.” DA 782, EW 182. Another type of super natural event that was associated with a judgment or time of decision regarding the changing of a king and the transfer of his kingdom is found in Dan 5.

This was when King Beltshazzer brazenly defied the God of heaven by defiling the sacred vessels of the temple by drinking out of them at a large banquet feast in honor of 1,000 of his lords and praised the heathen/pagan gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. Dan 5:1-4. Suddenly the finger’s of a man’s hand was seen writing on the wall of the king’s palace. “The king himself saw the fingers as they wrote. His face blanched with fear, and such terror gripped him that his knees knocked together and his legs gave way beneath him (his knees knocked against each other). Bring the magicians and astrologers! he screamed….The king grew more and more hysterical; his face reflected the terror he felt, and his officers too were shaken.” Vs 6, 8, 9.

None of the “wise” men of Babylon could explain the meaning of the words written on the wall. So, finally, the queen-mother was called in and she informed him about Daniel’s fame in wisdom and understanding supernatural events such as this writing. So they called him in and he interpreted the words Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin, to mean that “God had numbered the days of His reign, and they have come to an end. You have been weighed in the balances of the Almighty and have failed the test. Furthermore, your kingdom will be divided and given to the Medes and Persians. That very night the king died in the siege which followed.” Dan 5:10-31. And Darius the Median became the new king at 62 years of age. Chapter 6 of Daniel follows in sequence revealing what happened next. This is when Daniel was made the first of three presidents who were in charge of 120 presidents. You can read the rest of this fascinating narrative which continues on with the life of Daniel who was thrown into the Lion’s den because he refused to stop praying to His God.

All of these events are a revelation to the universe of the Lord’s “Modus Operandi,” i.e., His mode of operation. The end of one kingdom and the setting up of another. So, this is what happened at the death of Jesus when He cried out with a loud voice, “It is finished.” That is when the earthquake occurred. Isaiah 14:16 indicates that Satan is the one who makes the “earth to tremble.” And when the saints or elect (the first of the first fruits or Barley Harvest) complete their testimony or work the Lord assigns to them, there will be an earthquake, Rev 11: 11-13. This harvest of the Barley precedes or comes just before the wheat harvest of the 144,000 which will take 40 days. This is the anti-type or fulfillment of the type of Christ’s 40 day stay on earth after he returned from heaven on the first day of the week and came back in the afternoon, about 3:00 PM. Ruth 1:22 and 2:23 reveal that the wheat harvest follows the barley harvest.

This is a type of what the Elect or Barley group will also do in 40 days after they are harvested or taken up to the throne of God to receive their gifts. Dan 7:13, 14. They will come back down to this planet and begin the Wheat Harvest revealed in Rev 14:14. Notice that right after the revelation of the seven churches and the promise that they can overcome and sit with Jesus in His throne, John is next shown a door through which he passes, the same door through which these 24 elders sitting on the 24 thrones have passed. Who are these 24 elders? I believe they are the Elect who are gathered from the four winds of heaven throughout the length and breadth of this earth.

24 Titles or designations of the Final High Command Army of Jesus Christ.

The above titles do not apply to the 144,000 because they are still sleeping. All these designations are descriptions of the many aspects of the “Watchmen on the walls of Zion,” who are not sleeping. The Ten Sleeping Virgins of Matt. 25 wake up at the midnight hour, when they hear the cry go forth, “The Bridegroom is coming.” But only five have the extra oil to light their path to the Father’s house.

This is also when the death decree is signed.

These 24 titles seems to tie and fit perfectly with the 24 thrones surrounding the throne of God. 12 and 24 are symbolic of God’s government. There were 12 tribes of Israel and 12 apostles. The names of the 12 tribes are inscribed on the 12 gates. And the 12 apostles are inscribed on the foundations of the New Jerusalem. Rev 21:12-14. So, the Twelve apostles and 12 sons of Jacob have already been honored and assigned their places and functions in heaven. Besides that, I believe they are still asleep in their graves, waiting for the final resurrection of the dead. Peter said that David had not ascended into heaven, Acts 2:34. Why are there 12 gates? Elder HMS Richards preached a sermon in which he said that each one of the sons of Jacob had a special personality and character which the Lord has perfected in them and their descendants (children). Dan 12: 1. He suggested that each saved saint will pass through the gate of that Son of Jacob whose personality and character was like their own and represented a similar victory in their own life. And notice that 12 Apostles and 12 Tribes are equal to 24. These represent the church from Old & New Testaments. And the majority of the saints who will pass through those gates will be from the final resurrection of the dead, as a wave sheaf for those who survive the Grape Harvest. Now, the 24 Elders also represent various characters from various part of the world. Each of them have also gained the victory over some particular sin or fault or failing in their lives in one of those 24 categories. So, these 24 Elders are proof that through the power of the Holy Spirit working in their lives, it is possible to overcome every possible temptation to sin that the government of Satan can bring. Jesus was tempted just like we are. “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Heb 4:15, 16.

So what happened to all the saints who were translated to heaven with Christ when He returned after the 40 days? On page 834 of Desire of Ages we read of all the individuals who were waiting to welcome Jesus back to heaven. “The commanders of the angel hosts, the sons of God, the representatives of the unfallen worlds are assembled. The heavenly council before which Lucifer had accused God and His Son, the representatives of those sinless realms over which Satan had thought to establish his dominion,–all are there to welcome the Redeemer. They are eager to celebrate His triumph and to glorify their King. But He waves them back. Not yet; He cannot now receive the coronet of glory and the royal robe. He enters into the presence of His Father. He points to His wounded head, the pierced side, the marred feet; He lifts His hands, bearing the print of nails. He points to the tokens of His triumph; He presents to God the wave sheaf, those raised with Him as representatives of that great multitude who shall come forth from the grave at His second coming.” DA 834.

How many human beings would a “great multitude” be? It could be thousands. Then John tells us that he saw “Twenty-four other thrones were in a circle around that throne. And on each of these thrones there was an elder dressed in white clothes and wearing a gold crown.” Rev 4:4. Notice that Rev 14:14 describes “one” who also has a “crown.” This one is the Barley Group, the Elect. Remember that the Hebrew language often will use or employ the term “son or child” to refer to a group or a nation, as in Hosea 11:1. “When Israel was a child, then I loved him and called my Son out of Egypt.” I believe these 24 elders are from this final generation who will be the High Command Council, under Christ’s direction, to take over the rulership of this earth at the time the transfer of power takes place. “And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.'” Rev 11:15. Cf Rev 19.

Now, let’s read about the “four beasts.” The word beasts is not a good translation. It should be “four living beings.” “And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts (living beings) full of eyes before and behind. And the first being was like a lion, and the second being like a calf, and the third being had a face as a man, and fourth being was like a flying eagle.”

One scholar has stated that these four faces represent the Father and Mother of this earth the Creators, Michael and Gabrielle, who created Adam and Eve. The Eagle and Red Heifer, both feminine in gender represent or symbolize Gabrielle. The face of the man represents Jesus in His humanity and the Lion symbolizes Him as the “Lion of the tribe of Judah” Rev 5:5, as well as the true King of this earth, King of Kings & Lord of Lords, Rev. 19:16. In Daniel Christ is referred to as a Prince but in Rev 19:16 He is declared to be King of Kings and Lord of Lords. In order to become a King there has to be a ceremony for the crowning and the princess, His bride, then becomes the Queen. This is a topic and theme deserving of much more study and expansion.

Now, let’s discuss the 24 Elders further. Are they from the past or will they be from our generation? Rev 5:9 says that “they sung a new song, saying, Thou (Jesus) art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals.” The Old Testament saints only had the Song of Moses, Deut 31:30; Deut 32. Only those who pass through the final days of this earth’s history and win the victory over “the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name” will “stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.” Because of this victory in this last age they now are able to sing two songs of victory: 1. The Song of Moses and 2. The song of the Lamb as well. Rev. 5:8 proves that they have “harps.” They are the teachers of the 144,000 in Rev 14.

This scene is a parallel to Dan 7 when the “thrones were set.” And notice the time when those thrones are “cast down” or “placed.” “Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saint of the most high; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.” Dan 7:22. That did not happen at the time Christ rose from the grave nor has it happened yet, because the saints have not yet possessed the kingdom. That will not take place until Rev 11:15 when the transfer of power takes place. “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and His Christos.” The word “Christso” means “anointed.”

Various theories have been put forth re: these 24 elders, such as that they are angels or that they are resurrected saints from the past such as those who were raised with Jesus when He arose from the dead. I used to believe this myself but now I believe these 24 Elders are from this last generation. Let me explain why I believe this because I am sure this will be a shocking revelation to most people. The Greek word “aggelos” translated in the New Testament 96 times (by my quick count, I could be off one or two) into English as “angel” does not always mean angel, per se, as in “an angel from heaven.” The first and primary meaning of aggelos is simply “a messenger,” and means “one who brings tidings.” Until we come to the book of Revelation I believe that aggelos does mean heavenly angels. I also believe that these same heavenly angels are assigned to the seven churches. And that the “strong angel” in Rev 5:2 is probably an angel of heaven. But beside the 24 Elders there are also “men” in heaven who are not identified, per se. “And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.” Rev 5:3. The Greek word here in this verse is translated “man” is oudeis (oo-dice) from Strong’s 3762. And it can mean a man or a woman. The same is true of the Greek word “medeis” (may-dice) Strong’s 3367. It also can be masculine or feminine. This means that some women are in heaven at this point. The Greek word for “Elders” is Presbuteros which simply means “older, senior, elder or old.” This, of course, means that some of the “elders” could be women. How is that for a shocking revelation?

Now, the first text using the Greek word “aggelos” that most likely is a human messenger is Rev 7:1. “And after these things I saw four angels (messengers) standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.” I think that we can agree that heavenly angels have been restraining evil down through the ages as they are today. But here in Rev 7:1-4 we are dealing with and looking at a future segment of time beyond our day. Daniel 12 reveals that there will be a 3 ½ period of time after Michael stands up. And Rev 12 indicates that there will be two periods of 3 ½ years making a total of 7 years. In Rev 10:7 states that the “Mystery of God” is going to “be finished” during the days of the “voice of the seventh angel.” This angel does not begin to sound until Rev 11:15, after or at the close of the work or ministry of the Two Witnesses (same as the Elect) who are “killed” after they have given their testimony for 1260 days or 3 ½ years. Now, let us try and further identify the 24 elders.

Notice first of all that the 24 elders are wearing “crowns of gold” on their heads and are wearing “white raiment.” Rev 4:4. Notice that these same “angels” which also means “messengers” are identified in Rev 15:6; 19:7, 8 and 19:14 simply as “aggelos” which means messengers in its primary definition. To further strengthen my argument that these “angels” are human “messengers” look at Rev 14:14. “And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp cycle.” And the armies which were in heaven who followed Jesus upon “White horses,” were “clothed in fine linen, white and clean” the same as the human beings called “Elders” in Rev 4:4 are clothed “in white raiment” along with the crowns on their heads. The only thing is that by Rev 19 you have added 144,000 to Christ’s army who were “sealed” by the “messengers” in Rev 7 which no doubt are translated, human messengers, from the First of the First fruits or the Barley Harvest.

Does this mean only 24 human beings are going to be translated at the time of the Barley Harvest? That is what it looks like at this time. One famous writer on prophecy sees a further indicator that the church has been translated at this point in time by the fact that the seven lampstands of fire, Rev 4:5, which were the seven churches on earth in Rev 1:20, are now before the throne in heaven. As the prophetic scroll is unrolled we will understand more. What we do know now is that the Elect will be a small group of people, because the darkness during the first 3 ½ years will be so great that almost everyone will apostatize. Didn’t Elijah say that he was the only one left? Yes, because no one else was standing up against Baal worship even though the Lord said that he had 7,000 that had not bowed the knee to Baal. Remember at the end of the messages to the seven churches you have a Laodicean condition throughout the professed Christian world. And remember this, Jesus predicted that the end-time moral condition would be like the days of Noah. “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.” Luke 17:26. And how many people went into the ark? Only eight. Gen 8:7; I Pet 3:20. Christ also compared the end times to Sodom and Lot. And how many were saved out of the city of Sodom? Only four and Lot’s wife turned back and was lost. And how many believed Jesus was the Messiah at the time of His arrest? Not even one. Only the thief on the cross believed that He was the true King and had a kingdom. And how many escaped the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 66 – 70? Only a few who believed in the words of Christ. So, why should we be surprised? “Because straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matt 7:14.

So, this will be the beginning of the Harvest, the reaping of the Elect. They must pass a very hard test which everyone else will fail. “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” Matt 24:24. Verse 31 tells us that the angels will “gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” But in the second phase of the harvest, the Wheat, there will be 144,000 who will be reaped in 40 days. Then the last phase will take 3 ½ years, which will be the Grape Harvest. This will be 1/3 of the human race. See Zech 13:7-9.

Rev 4:1 is a decided and important turning point in the book of Revelation. The moral decadence and apathy of the church is described in sickening detail in the closing verses of Rev 3. In fact, it is so sickening that it even makes the Lord Himself “spue” them out of His mouth. The Greek word is “emeo” which literally means to “vomit.” That is how pitiful the spiritual condition of the professed people of God will become just before Jesus returns. So, something very dramatic has to happen to change these people so a percentage or “Little Company” will be ready for translation. Two things are going to happen which will bring this to pass. 1. The Death Decree, which will wake up the Sleeping Virgins and 2. The Latter Rain will be poured out on those who are ready for it and then the Time of Trouble will be unleashed upon the Remnant of Rev 12 which will cause those backsliding, apathetic Laodiceans to shape up during those last horrible 3 ½ years of holocaust. So, the Lord is in charge and He knows what traumatic events and supernatural power is needed to to bring His people to maturity.

Although Rev 4 does not describe the events which effect this change in God’s professed people, we know something happened because we see an Elect who have been seated on thrones and are ready for the judgment to begin. These 24 Elders have been chosen by the God family in agreement with the Heavenly Universal Council to become the Supreme High Command under Jesus. Look what a transformation took place among the disciples right after the death and resurrection of their beloved Lord. They were completely changed. And look at what happened to Saul of Tarsus after Jesus appeared to him on the road to Damascus. Acts 9. A similar change will take place among God’s professed people after the Barley or Elect are “killed” (slandered) and lay dead for 3 ½ days, the same as Jesus. Rev 11:1-13. When the Remnant, who flee into the “Wilderness” (Rev 12:6; 14-17) witness the translation of the Elect, after they are raised from the dead, those frightened Remnant are going to be changed just like the disciples after the death and resurrection of Christ.

So we can expect a very big miracle to take place in the final hours of this world’s history because of the word picture John painted Laodecia, of the lukewarmness and an attitude of “we are going to wait and see what happens before we decide.” It very much represents the current spiritual condition of the church we see in the world today….the status quo; Wishy washy Christians who are halting between two opinions, as in the days of Elijah on Mount Carmel, which is a fitting symbol for the final battle of Armageddon. And so a supernatural act of Grace has taken place in the lives of these 24 elders such as has never happened before in the history of the world. They have become totally like Christ in character.

Rev 4 reveals the big change that is going to take place after the last verse of Rev 3. If the book of Revelation is a guide book for the last segment of time, the last 7 years of this age, then what John wrote is what we need to know right now. Because we are right there on Mt Carmel again with Elijah. At the end of the 7th seal there is another earthquake, Rev 8:5, which I believe is the same earthquake John reports as taking place in Rev 11:13. The events are also parallel in that it is the time of the first phase of the Second Coming of Christ or the Barley Harvest of the Elect. Notice there is a silence in heaven which takes place at the time the Two Witnesses are killed. Then notice that the seven trumpets follow the seven seals and are actually parallel to them in time, that is, transpiring in the same time frame.

Now let’s consider the half an hour of silence in heaven at the time the seventh seal is opened. If the Barley Group or Elect are “killed” just before the first phase of the Second Coming, i.e. slandered, as we read in Rev 11:7, by the NWO, in order to silence them and they lie in the streets of Jerusalem for 3 ½ days, then how does this half an hour of silence fit in? I believe it has a direct bearing on God’s chosen people, the Elect, in this last segment of time who must also pass a test to prove to the Universal Council or Heavenly Council that humanity can, like Christ, become perfect in character. Just as Jesus had to drink the cup so also will they. Notice: “Soon after they had commenced their earnest cry, the angels, in sympathy, desired to go to their deliverance. But a tall, commanding angel suffered them not. He said, ‘The will of God is not yet fulfilled. They must drink of the cup. They must be baptized with the baptism.” Early Writings, 272. The Elect must go through a Gethsemane experience of their own, as Jesus did. And this has a direct relationship to the silence in heaven, mentioned in Rev 8:1, under the 7th seal. As I was thinking on this I remembered reading about a time when the angels did not play their harps and there was silence in heaven.

It happened in Gethsemane when Jesus prayed that He not have to drink the cup. Three times He prayed, “O My Father, if this cup may not pass away from Me, except I drink it, Thy will be done.” The LB reads: “My Father ! If this cup cannot go away until I drink it all, your will be done.” The author of the most famous book on the life of Christ evidently saw the Saviour in vision suffering beyond anything ever before witnessed. “Three times has He uttered that prayer. Three times has humanity shrunk from the last, crowning sacrifice. But now the history of the human race comes up before the world’s Redeemer. He sees that the transgressors of the law, if left to themselves, must perish. He sees the helplessness of man. He sees the power of sin. The woes and lamentations of a doomed world rise before Him. He beholds its impending fate, and His decision is made. He will save man at any cost to Himself. He accepts His baptism of blood, that through Him perishing millions may gain everlasting life. He has left the courts of heaven, where all is purity, happiness, and glory, to save the one lost sheep, the one world that has fallen by transgression. And He will not turn from His mission. He will become the propitiation of a race that has willed to sin. His prayer now breathes only submission: ‘If this cup may not pass away from Me, except I drink it, Thy will be done.’ Having made the decision, He fell dying to the ground from which He had partially risen. Where now were His disciples, to place their hands tenderly beneath the head of their fainting Master, and bathe that brow, marred indeed more than the sons of men?”

“The Saviour trod the wine press alone, and of the people there were none with Him. But God suffered with His Son. Angels beheld the Saviour’s agony. They saw their Lord enclosed by legions of satanic forces, His nature weighed down with a shuddering, mysterious dread. There was silence in heaven. No harp was touched. Could mortals have viewed the amazement of the angelic host as in silent grief they watched the Father separating His beams of light, love, and glory from His beloved Son, they would better understand how offensive in His sight is sin….In this awful crisis, when everything was at stake, when the mysterious cup trembled in the hand of the sufferer, the heavens opened, a light shone forth amid the stormy darkness of the crisis hour, and the mighty angel who stands in God’s presence, occupying the position from which Satan fell, came to the side of Christ.” Desire of Ages 693.

My friend, if you read what has been written regarding what the final Elect will have to go through, to pass the test before they are translated, there is a striking parallel. “The season of distress and anguish before us will require a faith that can endure weariness, delay, and hunger-a faith that will not faint though severely tried. The period of probation is granted to all to prepare for that time. Jacob prevailed because he was persevering and determined. His victory is an evidence of the power of importunate prayer. All who will lay hold of God’s promises, as he did, and be as earnest and persevering as he was, will succeed as he succeeded. Those who are unwilling to deny self, to agonize before God, to pray long and earnestly for His blessing, will not obtain it. Wrestling with God–how few know what it is!” GC 621.

Before my grandmother, Oolah Clemons, died, she told my mother, “Daughter, I have been through the Garden of Gethsemane with Jesus.” She was in Mercy hospital in Indianapolis with cancer of the stomach. They gave her cobalt treatments which caused a terrible burning sensation which was extremely painful. Her stomach swelled up so much they had to make incisions on each side to keep her abdomen from bursting. The pain she endured was beyond description. Mother saw how much Grandma had suffered and could not stop crying. She would come home and just break down with uncontrollable sobbing. I remember that time so vividly to this very day even though I was only 6 years of age in 1944. I have often wondered why God’s saints have to suffer so much in times like that. If Grandmother said she had gone through Gethsemane with Jesus then this must have been part of a final perfection process she went through before she died. Besides that, as in the days of Job, the Heavenly or Universal Council was watching Job to see if he would “curse God.” But Job did not curse God, as Satan claimed that he would, proving Satan a liar and a false accuser. “In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.” Job 1:22. Thus Job vindicated God’s character as Jesus did on the cross. And every person like my grandmother also vindicated the character of God. I believe that the angels who guarded my grandmother and my mother have now been sent to guard my sister and her family as well as myself and my family. As the angels watched my grandmother being perfected this gave them courage and faith that we also can be perfected before Jesus comes. It may be that this is part of their training in order to help this last generation. And I am quite sure the Universal or Heavenly Council was also watching my grandmother as well as us today. So, we have the privilege of vindicating the character of God in our day as Jesus did while He was on earth.

Now, let’s continue on in our study on the Apocalypse. We have seen that the book of Revelation follows a sequential and chronological order of events. “After these things,” means that the very next thing that John saw is this open door to the Throne Room and the invitation to come up to a higher level where one can see the very throne of God, the center of the universe, where the King of all time and eternity is sitting. “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” Rev 4:1. Notice this same voice is heard by the Two Witnesses who are slain by the NWO (killed by a slander campaign against their righteous characters), Rev. 11:7. “And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. And the same hour was there a great earthquake…” Rev. 11:11-13. Remember that these “Two Witnesses” is another title for the Elect or the Barley as already mentioned.

And so beloved, we see here in these verses that the Elect are the first of the first fruits, the Barley, who will be taken up to heaven to receive their gifts in preparation for the coming battle that will take place during the second 3 ½ years. Remember that Daniel 12 is about the second or last 3 ½ years because that is when Michael stands up for His people who will be put under a death decree. Rev 11 tells us that they will be “killed” but that after 3 ½ days they will come to life again and then will be taken up to the throne of God as we read in Dan 7:13, 14…

Please notice what happens once you accept Jesus’ invitation to open the door to your heart and mind so He can come in and dine with you. You are immediately invited to go through an open door and then ushered into the very throne room of the Father and Son where they will begin showing you future events which are soon to transpire in the earth. Because our Father is not a “respecter of persons” Acts 10:34; I Peter 1:17 He is willing and eager to show anyone the future who humbly requests to know it: “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Isaiah 57:15.

Let’s enter again with John into the throne room of the Creator of the universe. “Immediately I was in the Spirit; and, behold, a throne (was) set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.” Rev 4:1-4. Notice beloved that it is right after this revelation of the Seven Churches in the first three chapters of Revelation that a promise is given to those who overcome that they will sit down with Jesus in His throne the same as He has been seated with the Father in His throne. Next we see the 24 elders sitting on thrones. So, these must have passed through the open door. Twenty-Four is the number connected with the priesthood as we read in I Chronicles 24:1-9. The number twelve represents Divine Power, Rule and Authority. The number 24 is twice or double 12 which would signify an even greater power and authority. In Rev 5:8-10 John heard these same elders singing that Christ had redeemed them by His blood and had made them kings and priests unto God and Christ Jesus. So, these 24 elders are translated saints from our time and day, not from the past. In Rev 7:14, after the 144,000 are sealed John sees “a great multitude that no man can number,” from all over the world. One of the 24 elders asks John if he knows who they are and John admits he does not have a clue, but says to this same Elder then explains to John that this great multitude or unnumbered host of people had “come out of great tribulation.” vs 14. That tribulation would be the same as the Time of Trouble Daniel spoke of in Dan 12. So, this great multitude have not been raised from the dead but were translated. And if they are translated after the 144,000 (who are the wheat) then this Great Multitude would have to be from the Grape Harvest.

What does the rainbow around the throne in Rev 4:3 represent? Paul says that the glory of the man is the woman, I Cor 11:7. And so we see that God created Adam with a feminine counterpart whose name was Eve. If Adam was created in the “image and likeness” of his Father, who would have to be Jesus Christ or Michael, then in whose image was Eve created? You see there is a very important piece of the heavenly puzzle that has been missing for centuries because a patriarchal society has suppressed the truth about the family of God. As a result the false doctrine of celibacy was created which has been a curse upon the church since it began. The second false doctrine is the Trinity, i.e. three males, A Father, A Son and the Holy Ghost, when the original Hebrew clearly teaches that the Holy Spirit is feminine. The dove that came down upon Jesus at His baptism was feminine. Gen 8:3 tells us that the dove which Noah sent forth was a female dove and that is the first mention in Scripture of a dove. So, right there you have the Law of Primacy which states that when a word or phrase is first used that sets the definition and meaning for that word from then on. Adam and Eve were the first family on this planet. “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named.” Eph 3:14.

Let’s just use a little common sense and logic friends. How could a Father bring forth a Son without a mother? Especially when Paul categorically states that there is a family in heaven who bears the Father’s name. If there was ever a deception and cover-up this is it. We all know that the biggest lie in the Catholic church today is that Mary is alive and well and serving as our intercessor as the Queen of heaven. And that she has become the Mediatrix for humanity. They even go so far as to teach that without Mary there is no salvation. So, obviously she is counterfeiting something or more to the point SOMEBODY. But who? It would have to be the True Queen of Heaven. And who would that be? It would have to be the Holy Spirit. So, through the great whore of Revelation 17 we have not only a false church system but a false Holy Spirit that has been foisted upon the whole world. What a deception. And this has been going on since the days of Jeremiah. Just read Jere. 7 and 44 and you will see that he rebuked the Jews for worshiping the Queen of heaven who was Astarte in those days.

So, the Father brought forth an only Son in His very own image and likeness. And through that beloved only Son He brought forth Adam. But in whose likeness and image was Eve created? In the Old Testament her name was Wisdom. Jesus spoke of her by two names. The first is found in Matt 11:19 when he answered his critics who accused him of being a glutton and wine bibber, and a friend of sinners. And then He added this very important sentence: “But Wisdom is justified of her children.” Notice first of all that He identifies Wisdom as a female being and secondly He states that she has children.

Throughout the Proverbs Wisdom appeals to Her children. “Hearken unto Me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.” Prov 7:24. In Proverbs 1:7, 8 we read “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.” Notice that we have both a Father & a Mother. Wisdom is also called our sister. “Say unto Wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman.” Prov 7:4. For what reason? “That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flatters with her words.” Prov 7:5. Just think of the spiritual implications in that verse.

Who is the “strange” woman who is trying to entice the whole human race into worshiping a false religious system with a Pope and Cardinals and Bishops and Priests to whom we are told we must confess our sins? Why, of course it is Mary, the false Goddess who is referred to us as our “Mother” and the “Queen of heaven” and every other title you can think of which belongs only to the true Queen of Heaven, Wisdom or the Holy Ghost. In Matt 12:50 Jesus said that whoever believed in Him and His words was His brother and sister. So, not only is Jesus Christ the Creator and Father of this race, beginning with Adam, creating us through the power of His Father, we are also the offspring of a Heavenly Mother. “But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.” Gal 4:26. And what is the real meaning of Jerusalem, which is in the feminine Gender, of course, if she is our Mother. Je=the feminine of Jehovah. Ru=Feminine Spirit. And Salem is Shalom or peace. It means The feminine Spirit of Peace. That is what Jerusalem means. I deal with this in my latest book, “INTO THE FATHER’S HEART,” Revised & Updated. I show the relationship between Michael and Gabrielle in the book of Daniel, Dan 10:21, where Gabrielle tells Daniel that Michael and she are equal and working together all by themselves, as it were, alone to fight the enemy. Why? Because the holy angels and universal council did not yet understand the truth about Lucifer, the fallen angel who became Satan. That’s why Jesus had to come to this dark earth, to teach the truth about the Father and in the process expose Satan for who he really is, a liar and a murderer from the very beginning of the Great Controversy. “Desire of Ages,” 758, 759 explains in detail that Christ’s life and death was not only for this earth but for the entire universe.

Let’s just think about the implications of what Gabrielle told Daniel, i.e. that Michael and her are equal. Both were functioning as arch angels. But remember that Michael is also Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Therefore, if Gabrielle is equal to Michael in rank and power, the only one who is exalted enough to clasp hands with the Son of God to fight the enemy, then this can only mean one thing. Gabrielle is also deity. Remember what she told Zechariah in the sanctuary when he doubted that his wife, Elizabeth, could have a baby at her advanced age? “And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to show you these glad tidings.” Luke 1:19. Notice that she said that she “stands (not kneels) in the presence of God.” She is also identified as the “Angel of Mercy” in the SOP. “The angel of mercy was then folding her wings to step down from the golden throne to give place to justice and swift-coming judgment. But Christ’s great heart of love still pleaded for Jerusalem, that had scorned His mercies, despised His warnings, and was about to imbrue her hands in His blood.” Desire of Ages 578.

In my research for this article and my new book on Revelation I did a study on the word “Wisdom.” I went to www.google.com and found this excellent article on the Shekinah Glory. Webster’s dictionary does not correctly define the “Shekinah Glory” as being feminine. There has been a really big cover up and suppression of this truth about who the Shekinah really is. But in this final apostasy she is coming forth finally in this last crisis hour to identify herself to her ransomed children because she, with her brother/spouse…(Sister Spouse in Song of Solomon 5:1) Jesus Christ is about to come and take her children home to the Father’s house. What this article does not reveal is that the Shekinah is also Gabrielle in the book of Daniel and the Holy Ghost in the New Testament. And her mother is El Shaddai, the Almighty breasted One, Gen 17:1. Look it up in Strong’s. Shad is the Hebrew word for breast. The world has a saying which is carnal but I think it will soon apply and those who refuse to learn what it means are going to find out the hard and terrible way. “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” The true Mother of this earth has been not only been ravaged in the form of nature which most people call “Mother Earth,” but she has been denied as even existing, by being supplanted by the false QUEEN OF HEAVEN, even Mary, the human mother of Jesus who has been deified to the status of the modern Queen of Heaven via the Catholic Church.

When the Holy Spirit or Latter rain is fully poured out and the light is turned on destroying the darkness and the people of this earth find out the truth they will destroy this earth and all of its works. In fact, this is the plan of the NWO order….to incite the people to riot and destroy each other, etc. See Ezek 38:21. Our only hope is to find out who are real Mother and Father really are.

A fellow researcher discovered about a year ago that the word translated “Angel” in Revelation can also be translated “Messenger.” The first text using the Greek word “aggelos” that most likely is a human messenger is Rev 7:1. Rev 10:7 states that the “Mystery of God” is going to “be finished” during the days of the “voice of the seventh angel.” This angel does not begin to sound until Rev 11:15, after or at the close of the work or ministry of the Two Witnesses (same as the Elect) who are “killed” after they have given their testimony for 1260 days or 3 ½ years.

Now, let us try and further identify the 24 elders of Rev 4:4.
